Slinko (and others who have taken the plunge), any advice on adding extra media to quests, like animations or minigames?
>>
No. 140890 ID: 4562ef

>>140873
Don't make it too complicated. The number of assets you'll need can pile up VERY quickly, especially if you do a game with animations. Have a well-defined goal, a purpose that you want to achieve with it, for example "character bouncing around a room with physics because it's funny." Once you have made that happen, then you can think about adding things onto it.

Yeah, would reccomend incredibly small scopes per project, stuff like:

> Just a guy moving around and talking to people with text and simple character/environment art

Is actually a lot for most people even just using premade assets and software. Not to mention the writing and art assets also required to make it work. Not to mention most people feel it's a requirement to add talksprites so that's basically doubling the artistic work required.

Keep it simple, and if you consistently make more projects, then add like one new thing that you felt you needed to the next one.

At least, that's how I'd suggest handling it if you wanted to produce something reusable or long term for a project while working solo.

Is it possible to delete other people's comments?

If so, I might have made a mistake. Sorry.

You're only able to delete posts you know the password to. A password is auto-generated and automatically filled in for your posts.

So if you're worried that you deleted someone's post, don't stress about it. Unless you managed to delete some spam then hell yeah!

This thread is to discuss whether the bed in House. is made or not. This is for you, suggester who keeps asking about the bed.

Also feel free to speculate on other things to do with the quest if you want. Scribbles also welcome.

I believe the bed is integral to the success of this campaign. Unmaking the bed offends the House because the House must be kept neat and tidy. Untold horrors will descend upon us if the bed is not made. All our efforts to clean and polish every surface will be tainted by that unmade bed blotting out the sun. The vacuum will get tangled in the fallen sheets. All is lost all is lost.

Nonsense! This is clearly a red herring, even a trap! In fact, making the bed is a ruse sent by the Anti-house! Doing so will wreck ALL our plans, even the ones we haven't made yet!

Run to the hills (and for your clothes)! It's the END Times (Embarrassed Nude Day Times) for Questden!

In this thread on this day or throughout the next month, create embarrassed nude male/female (ENM/ENF) artwork(s) of any quest character(s) you like!

Art can be as simple as you want (no background or background characters, just an embarrassed nude pose) or as ambitious as you want (background, multiple characters, small comic or short story along with drawing, or multiple pic sequences) and characters can be any gender. As long as it is a quest character, naked, and ashamed of their nudity, it's all good!

Also, Thread will be definitely NSFW, but if any naughty bits are showing, remember to spoiler the image just to be safe

Anita: “It seems like you’re out of clothes, so why don’t we call it there and say I won?”

Anita: “These have got your magic in them, so I’m sure the professor will accept them as a trophy.”

Anita: “...Huh, Summon Undead? Y’know, I think I have a pair just like these from this one time I–”

Anita: “Er, nevermind. I’ll just head out and let you get dressed. Thanks for the fight!”

Konda: “Unngghhhh, what happened–?”

Konda: “GOOD LORD! I’M INDECENT!”

Konda looks around, finding her robe in shatters and her undergarments nowhere to be found. She covers up immediately, despite there being nobody there.

Konda: “Oh my gosh, did that witch leave right after I flashed her? Oooooohh, what if she tells everyone I put on such a terrible performance? I’ll be a laughingstock!”

Konda: “I-I should get dressed first. Then maybe I can chase her down and ask her not to mention it.”

DEAR LADY KONDA,

I HAVE TAKEN IT UPON MYSELF TO HAVE ALL OF YOUR CLOTHES CLEANED. I HAVE ALSO BROUGHT SHEETS, TOWELS, AND JUST ABOUT ANYTHING THAT COULD BE USED TO COVER ONE'S SELF WITH ME ON THIS VENTURE. A STRANGE THING TO SPECIFY, I REALIZE, BUT I COULDN’T THINK OF ANY OTHER WAY TO DESCRIBE IT. I’M SURE THIS WILL NOT TROUBLE YOU AT ALL, GIVEN THAT YOU ARE PRESENTLY DRESSED AS I AM DOING THIS, AND THAT WILL CERTAINLY REMAIN THE CASE BY THE TIME I RETURN AS WELL.

I ALSO FEEL COMPELLED TO REMIND YOU THAT THE KOBOLD EMPRESS, SKULLKINI, YOUR MOTHER, AND SEVERAL OF OUR ACQUAINTANCES WILL BE STOPPING BY THE DUNGEON LATER TONIGHT. WHILE THEY DIDN’T SPECIFY AN EXACT TIME, I’M ALMOST CERTAIN THAT IT WILL BE PRIOR TO MY RETURNING. MAKE SURE TO GREET THEM WELL, AND BE FULLY CLOTHED WHEN YOU DO.

- SIR LAYTON THE GOOD MCMANHAMMER

'Because nothing says quality like a 16x16 image!' - Cirr, as paraphrased by Lago as best as he could remember it after, instead of adding the following edit, he completely overwrote the whole post with it.

Lagotrope edit: To have a favicon added, I need author approval. Hence, the author of the respective quest must either post the favicon themselves or, if a favicon they like is already in the thread somewhere, refer to the favicon's post number and approve it. Either way, please supply the URL to the quest as well, thank you.

In short I need 3 things: author approval, the favicon, and the quest link.

2023 Lagotrope edit: When a favicon needs to be added to its respective thread, I (Lagotrope) can be pinged on the questden discord.

Just something for later. I was asked to help make a special monster by Absurdity, so this is what I came up with. Don't read if you don't want spoilers.

They are an Oblex, a special type of Ooze that can change its appearance based on the memories of people it's eaten. As such, they are something of a scholar and librarian but everything they do is an imitation of actual feelings. There is always something just slightly off about them, and when they get too stressed out, panicked, etc, they return to their slime form.

that the next sidequest will be a civquest. First one I'm actually running, and the system I got isn't totally done, so I'm gonna shoot some questions about it here. If you wanna answer or chip in your own feedback, feel free.

Also I'm posting whatever I sketch since I'm sick atm, and more of my time is spent doodling on whatever scrap of paper I got and less on the tablet. So here goes.

Norberg - Daoine monk turned fighter. Even by Daoine standards he is short tempered. Once, he was part of the Holy Order Quadranate and was a disciple of the Four Truths. He could never follow the 2nd one about acts of unnecessary violence. Because of this he was eventually ousted from the order when he had bludgeoned to death all the Gormoamhi raiding the abbey. His strength is more balanced between axe and shield. But when angered, he'll pulverize his enemies with the shield.

Balboran-Daoine healer. He doesn't do magic, but everyone thinks it’s magic. It’s actually drugs. Really powerful drugs that send you to another world while he re-attaches your limbs and shoves those organs back inside where they belong. Unlike other Daoine whose rage turns them into a berserker bunny, Balboran’s rage gives him a panic attack. It might have something to do with all the drugs.

There we go; only needed 'bout 20 days to get around to it!

So they idea would be something inspired both the suggestions above as well as Mnemosyne utilitarian armor and colour scheme.

The headpiece could have a shark teeth decal, because hey, it is potentially in character, as well as either being a metal mask held on by straps on the back the head, as seen on the front and back paperdolls, or a full helmet with detachable mouth and ear pieces, as seen on the profiled paperdoll. I'm partial towards the full helmet, even though the mask is more fashionable.

There is also a final detachable armour piece to protect the base of the tail. However, this design is not nearly as appealing to me...

It's cool that you're still thinking about it. Usually I suggest continuation over a reboot, but if it's been this long and the setting's drifted a lot maybe that does work better.
>>
No. 139701 ID: 9a2966

Cool lore dump. Imo, a reboot may work out better, but you could incorporate elements from what occurred in the previous thread to lead into the fresh start.

So, being as demons are a creation of negative emotions and obsessions, does the setting have the reverse occur where sustained positive emotions and convictions create proto-whatevers of a different makeup?

Like a rarer reverse-demon configuration (i.e. spirit or 'angel'), where a mortal with their mind set to it - or perhaps accidentally through their personality and life - cultivates something that then somehow subsumes a soul (say on the mortal's death) and becomes a permanent entity?

Consider zealots, monks, ascetics, fighters for a cause - or just someone with an upbeat personality, a work ethic, or the fortune to not have life's little miseries and temptuous foibles bring them out of their decent groove for long enough.

I imagine interesting things might also be happening with religions here and communally created entities. Gonna bet there's some fucked-up looking angels out there. Or maybe deamons masquerading as 'em, pending on the sincerity and positivity of worship, I suppose.
>>
No. 139706 ID: 3b86e0

I may not really know the context, but an insanity demon dying from doing something mildly well-adjusted is really funny and I am glad to have come across the idea.

Not particularly, the creation of daemons (or familiars, as they were called in the primordial days before any of them were severed) is generally a result of mental illness or severe trauma in one way or another. People don't tend to dwell on positive emotions to quite the same extent as they do negative ones.

People identified specific dangerous emotional states, and put words to them, without giving them a religious significance as 'sins'. And it's easy to write in those seven for readers to understand without having to make up new words. Imagine if I decided to call wrath "enragedfulness" or perhaps even "dwamolsi", some total nonsense word that doesn't exist and causes the reader to stop mid sentence and wonder what the fuck dwamolsi is. It's distracting, and cultural concepts in the real world are easier to adapt.

Anyway, my point in this ramble is that while there definitely have been cults, religions, and zealots, the kind of people that would form a protodaemon out of them are more likely to be obsessed, hateful, fixated on some wrong they perceive in the world. You don't manifest a daemon on good vibes.

I suppose, however, that good things could hypothetically come from someone creating a daemon. If someone was angry enough about, say, the poor going hungry that it became an obsession to fix it, and it went on long enough, they might form a daemon that could help them feed the hungry, but bear in mind the amount of mental anguish they would need to undergo to form such a daemon would probably mean that by that point, they were not mentally stable. Their modus operandi would probably be blasting their way into food stashes to ste

I like the magic so far. We got a lot of use out of simple illusion spells.

The scroll of paralyzation only working on humanoids is odd. I guess you are planing to have a big monster that could be cheesed with paralyzes.

I'm a bit concern with the "cognitohazard" mechanic. I've see this getting abused and ending up very stupid in SCP articles.
The concept work best when it's a immutable true of the universe that goes against normal sanity. A more realistic version is the "forbidden knowledge" that is more cultural dependent and hard to talk about in the abstract (if you ever came across one of those you know).
In this case it seem to be the influence of deities over mortals, that's fine as long as the gods are not too human in behavior. I guess it's a literal "when you stare into the abyss the abyss stares back" kind of deal: the gods react to be contacted by the mortal observing their symbols.

At the moment, it's only adopting the general shape of the Pathfinder 1e ruleset. I wasn't sure when starting the quest if it would be too complicated or not for readers, since 1e is fairly complex. So I wanted to make things a lot simpler. But I think I was probably being a little to careful, I'll probably be slowly adding complexity as things go on that follow a little more in line with Pathfinder.

I kinda like making a system up as I go along though, so I don't think it's ever going to be 1 to 1 Pathfinder.

>>142029
The scroll of paralyzation I probably should've just let you use on anyone. It's a Pathfinder holdover of "Hold Person", which can only be used on humanoid typed creatures.

As for the whole cognitohazard thing. Honestly, when I first started I had no idea what that was lol. I can't really go to much into what I plan on doing with things, but I'm going to try to not punish or negatively affect the main character for you all just talking about things. As things go on, I'm hoping stuff will be understood more. I love seeing theories on what's going on, and it kinda makes me think sometimes if those theories were actually the case.

Hello again. My wife and I welcome you to our annual Secret Santa party. This year I’ve booked a mega-lodge to fit all of our guests. There will be activities such as skiing and sledding down Mt. Fjellberg. Yamelle is somewhere around here... probably. But first we must look over the rules; it should be the same as before. I’ll just read what my wife has written down for me.

Here are the previous years of gift-giving!

So yeah, while I'm taking a break from Tharsianing (and lining up plot elements for it), I'd figure I'll resurrect an old quest that I abandoned on 4chan due to IP shenanigans.

Some stuff that I should mention:
>This will start out as a redo of the 4chan quest (since it only went two threads), while still keeping the tone and feel.
>This quest will take place in the Primordial universe; albeit a different time from the Primordial games. For more info:
http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Primordial_Evolution_Game
>New players can choose to ignore the tl;dr and just play! I intend to seep in bits of lore while the quest progresses anyways.
>Old players and those who were in Primordial: if you see any disrepancies etc, feel free to call me out in this discussion thread!

A lot of discussion's come up in the latest DiveQuest chapter so I wanted to clarify some things here without diverting the action of the thread itself.

This whole reorganizational thing, facilitated by the character of Ashedel, is not really a retcon of anything, just a reorganization.
I mentioned that I was so frustrated by and not at all enjoying Divequest that I was on the verge of just outright canceling it, but instead I made some big changes to its overall theme and drive, and one of my biggest changes is ripping out all the micromanagement. That wasn't fun and several people told me they weren't able to keep up with the quest solely because of the bloated inventories and mana management, and I was inclined to agree. Simple is better.
Other changes include the way puzzles are handled, the general focus and scale, social interactions between the characters, and so on.
Mostly, as you can probably tell by now, DiveQuest is supposed to be pretty over the top and tongue-in-cheek, and I wanted to change the flow of the quest to better fit that. As it was, the puzzles and pacing too closely matched RubyQuest, which didn't really work for Dive.

Major changes include more focus on the characters, more dynamic puzzles, more agency on the part of the players, more of an over-the-top aesthetic, a generally smaller scale in terms of Muschio's minions (so that each of them can have their own personality), less stuff that takes itself too seriously, and so on. You get the basic idea.
The goal here is to make it more accessible, fast-paced, entertaining, somewhat silly, and open for new players.

That doesn't mean this is going to turn into a Harem quest or that there's not going to be more profuse amounts of violence, nor that everything will be RANDOM AND WACKY, nor that there will be no serious moments interspersed.
Just that the previous incarnation of DiveQuest was t

Hey guys, I was thinking of the tale of Red Fang's death Mr. Lollipop told us and how he capitalizes certain words to emphasize certain divinity "My teachings" instead of "my teachings" and the like.
Namely, the mention that he foresaw one of "Us" would set in motions the wheels of his death. However, the only one who caused his death was Muschio Malto and his decision to take on Red Fang's dungeon. This either implies that a totemic deity somehow influenced Malto into killing red fang or... We are somehow a form of totemic deity.
Which might be why he seems to be communicating with us directly and why only we are able to see past his illusions.

Now this might be a crackpot theory but if totem deities seem live and and die off devotion, doesn't that theoretically mean a totem deity can be born from devotion? Say a lineage of kings who help their people and leave behind their name and the "totem" of a banner. Perhaps one with a Big M emblazoned on the front? A king who frequently helps species that are accustomed to worshiping a totem deity and even has has holidays amongst these people.
Say one or two generations of worship of this king and his descendants, of the Big M and perhaps the devotion might end up crystalizing and becoming something. Perhaps becoming a guiding force for those most directly involved in the Malto's family lineage, or even manifesting within it's heir.

That'd be pretty crazy though, right?

Im still of the opinion mr lollipop is in the ally category.

Hes difficult to read as, for the most part, he is a creature that is more akin to water than anything else.
Shaped by the faith he is fed, he goes with the flow.
Powerful but paradoxically without power over self.
Perhaps too alien of thought to even be bothered by such things.
Thougn he does have one very understandable goal.

He does have a fundemental drive to be of use. To fit the purpose of the shape of the peoples belief.
That may be more similar to a mortal drive to be well fed than any urge for purpose.
If he is of no use to the people of the forest, then their belief in him wanes.
As we saw, when it fades he becomes less well defined in their minds and his own.
Once there isnt enough of a shape left for him to cling to, he'd just wash away.

As much as i began to pity him for what his situation appears to imply, namely a very limited degree of self determination, i do still wonder if im anthropomorphising a truly alien mindset.

Okay, time for ideas! I'll start by assuming that, since the robots built their civilization on a planet full of life, they make use of organic components in some of their systems.

Now here I go! Let's see how many answers I can come up with.

The original robots were programmed with sexual feelings by their creators, as a precaution against a rogue AI singularity. They're attracted to certain body types so they won't go too crazy with self-upgrading and their evolving programs will remain at least somewhat relatable if they ever meet their makers.

Physical contact is a sort of system diagnostic routine for their biological (or bio-mimetic) parts. They touch and grope each other to to confirm that their tactile sensors and connected systems are still functional, until their instinctive subroutines give them an "all good" feeling. They are designed with a desire to do this that gradually grows the longer they wait between tests, to make sure their organs don't become numb, atrophied, or otherwise nonfunctional.

The robots' primary sex organs collect genetic and hormonal data markers from their other organs, which can be extracted and analyzed as a way to measure their general health. Male organs send their data in a chemical medium, while females produce eggs with a similar function.

Female sex organs can be used to grow new organic parts. They can replicate any organs included in their own design, and males have the genomes for their own components, which they can deliver to a female for reproduction and later installation. They were designed this way to make it easier for the population to support itself without needing the infrastructure to grow organs in mass quantities. They've calculated

I meant to say "milk" here. I was thinking about cyberboobs. The females collect biodata in their chests and store it with synthesized biofuel. The organs are attached to their upper bodies so they don't interfere with the functions of their lower parts, and large sizes are considered attractive because they indicate that a person's organic systems are in good health and operating productively.

Now this, this is how to run a Neutral character that has to deal in murder.

Evil characters don't have to give any f'ks, or look like they do.

Good characters should feel at least uncomfortable with it, but would often weigh it along the lines of a greater Good.

Neutral characters have no such comfort, so would deal with it like an average person would. Props to the QM for showing that.

Well, that's kind of my thing. Does it at least inform some of the language or concerns that need to be addressed, and does it not limit or mess with you too much?

I mean even hard sci fi has a few allowances for unscientific stuff, as a concession to, 'yea, without this, no story would happen' sorts of things.

Well I think the best most honest way I can put this is: I threw the mystery together over a fairly short amount of time and while there is some wiggle room here and there, the basic shape of it is what it is and while the technical theorycrafting is very entertaining, you shouldn't expect the answers to adhere too close to scientific viability and rather trust the clues given in the quest.
Because my knowledge of astrophysics and whatnot is simply fairly limited and I cannot spare the time to do the sort of research a novelist might.
